Waldeen Marie Halfmann

Waldeen Marie Koenning Halfmann, 83, of Olfen, Texas, passed away Sunday morning, August 9, 2026.

Waldeen was born December 5, 1942, in Orange Grove, Texas, to Walter and Ella Mae Dylla Koenning. After graduating from Orange Grove High School, Waldeen worked in San Antonio and Orange Grove as a receptionist until marrying Hilmer Halfmann in Orange Grove, Texas, on May 8, 1965.

Waldeen valued God, church, and family above all else. She was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she was a long-time choir member. Waldeen served faithfully for 25 years as the Olfen CCD coordinator. She taught baptismal classes, first communion classes, and assisted with altar server training. She was also a long-time member of the Christian Mothers and worked tirelessly year after year, participating in and at times coordinating the Olfen Festivals. Waldeen also served as an officer of the local Catholic Life Insurance Co.

Waldeen was above all, a devoted wife, a loving mother of four, an adored Memaw of thirteen grandchildren and a great-Memaw to five and one on the way. Memaw had a way of putting her family before herself, often sacrificing to make sure the ones she loved were taken care of. She showed her unconditional love in simple, sweet ways like having a pan of brownies waiting the moment we walked in the door, making each feel special, welcome, and cared for. Her gentle love will forever be woven into the memories her family holds dear.

Waldeen was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents, her brother, Earl Koenning, 4 brothers-in-law, Erwin Kleypas, Jerry Bolen, Alton Braden and Wilbert Halfmann, as well as 2 nephews, Matthew Koenning and Randy Bolen.

Survivors include son, Stephen Halfmann and wife, Michele of Miles, daughters Janna Price and husband Jeremy of Franklin, Deanna Faubion and husband Brian of Miles, and Laura Parks and husband Cody of Lawn; grandchildren Justin Halfmann of San Angelo, Troy Halfmann and wife Hannah of Seguin, Leah Ray and husband Hayden of Rowena, Jada Ennis and husband Micah of Houston, Megan Wilson and husband Joel of Dublin, Avery, Ryan, Olivia, Porter and Liam Faubion of Miles, and Oliver, Evelyn and Maverick of Lawn; 5 great-grandchildren, Theodore, Eleanor and Josephine Ennis and Emry and Lincoln Halfmann as well as many nieces and nephews.

A rosary service will be held for Waldeen on August 12, at 9:30 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

The family of Waldeen Halfmann would like to extend a special thanks to Michele Halfmann, who lovingly cared for Waldeen in her home for the last 1.5 years of her life.
