Tommy Doyle Chambliss, Sr., 83, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.
He was born on September 17, 1939, to Cornelius (Neal) and Bettie (Campbell) Chambliss in Gunsight, Texas. On June 1, 1983, he married Helen “Sue” Miles at a ceremony in Oklahoma City, OK. Together they shared 36 beautiful years before her passing in January of 2019. Tommy was an inventor and mathematician by trade, who spent time honing his skills as he worked through his degree at both Texas Tech and Hardin Simmons University. In his younger years, Tommy was a member of the Winters Lion’s Club and a volunteer firefighter for the Winters Fire Department. He worked as a production manager for over 27 years for Mueller’s Inc, in Ballinger before his retirement. Tommy was exceptional at math and instilled that talent into his boys.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Neal and Bettie Chambliss, his brother Jerry Chambliss, sister Cecelia Schwertner Heeter, and his two great-grandchildren Charlee Shay Fenwick and Elizabeth Jean Coleman.
He is survived by his brother, Richard Chambliss, his children, son Tommy Chambliss, Jr., and wife Jody, son Terry Chambliss and wife Lois, daughter Tammy Fenwick and husband Rodney Joe, daughter Traci Cartwright and husband Charles, and daughter Mary Hollis and husband Sargent, and son William Luke (Billy) Bennefield. Tommy is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephanie, JJ, Terry Don, Bettie Jo, Ted, Misty, Aydan, Noah, Ethan, Victoria, Joshua, Timothy, David, and Christina. He will be greatly missed by his great-grandchildren Deklyn, Obadiah, Olivia, Braxton, Bryce, Joyanna, Tommy, Aria, Kase, Taytom, Capri; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held for Tommy on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas. His graveside service will follow on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Lakeview Cemetery in Winters, Texas with Don Greenway officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics in Tommy’s honor.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Rightmire, Dr. Bradley Bundrant, and Ballinger Memorial Hospital for their excellent loving care.
