Sharon Ann Petty Sherrod passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on July 2, 2026.
Sharon was born on November 18, 1944, to James Earl “Buster” and Anna Virginia Petty. Born and raised in San Angelo, Texas, Sharon graduated from Central High School, where she met the love of her life, William Eugene “Gene” Sherrod. They were married on February 23, 1963. Together they raised four daughters. Gene and Sharon had an amazing 63 years together, sharing their love of Jesus, Music, Golf, fishing, and Family. Sharon was gifted with the voice of an Angel. Singing regularly in church to the delight of anyone who heard her. She was an extremely talented seamstress, creating countless prom dresses, formals, clothes, costumes, and quilts, not just for her girls but for many others as well. Sharon loved lighthouses and the ocean and the annual family vacation to Padre Island, packing as many family members into the condo as possible. Sharon had a heart for Jesus. She loved her Lord and served him in any way that she could.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, James Earl “Buster” Petty and Anna Virginia Petty; her mother- and father-in-law, Pete Zoellner and Ruby Lee Zoellner; and her brothers, Mike Petty, Jimmy Petty and Jerry Petty. Brother-in-Law David Cate. Her Grandson Cameron Wood.
Sharon is survived by her daughters Becky Soboski and her husband, Edward “Ski” Soboski; Kristy Wood and her husband, Kirk Wood; Michelle Reidel and her husband, Jim; Sarah Campbell and her husband, Brian; and Bonus daughter Sheri Carter. Grandchildren: Rihana Saintsing and her husband, Barry; Christian Wood; Megan Halfmann and her husband, Layne; Mason Turner; Kimry Gunn and her husband, Nathan; Cayley Campbell; Breanna Leneave and her husband, Jesse; and Shawna and Patrick Barclay. Great-Grandchildren: Taitum Way, Barry Saintsing III, Nadia Wood, Korver Halfmann, soon-to-be baby Halfmann, and Emma Leneave. And very special friends, the Osmaski family, the Burns family, the Watson Family, the Sconce family, the Burnett Family, as well as many, many more.
The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to Dr. Kristin Goen at Shannon Medical Center. Thank you for the amazing care you gave our mother over the last few years. You always went above and beyond, treating her with kindness, gentleness, and compassion, and for that, we could never thank you enough. To the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hospice of San Angelo, what a blessing all of you were to our family. You helped our family navigate this end-of-life journey with patience and grace, and we could never put into words what your care with our mother meant to us. Lastly, to Gillian Lange of Lange Funeral Home, thank you for your help and support in making the final arrangements for our mother in this difficult time.
The family would like to invite any and all who loved Sharon or her family to attend a memorial service in her honor on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 2:00 at Parkside Community Church in San Angelo.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of San Angelo, in honor of Sharon, but she loved flowers too!
