Mildred Elizabeth Hoelscher Frerich, 95, of Norton passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Ballinger.
Mildred was born on December 15, 1930, at Terry Chapel near Barclay, Texas, in Falls County, Texas to Edward G. and Adela (Niehues) Hoelscher. In 1944 Mildred’s family moved to Olfen, Texas. She attended Barclay, Olfen, and Rowena schools and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Rowena in 1948.
She was employed by Runnels County Abstract Company in Ballinger for several years. On September 3, 1956, Mildred married Leon W. Frerich at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen.
Mildred and her husband, Leon, lived and farmed in the Norton community and raised four children. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger and the Altar Society. Mildred was a member of the Norton PTA, serving as President, and a member of the Friendly Neighbors Home Demonstration Club in Ballinger. She was an active 4-H Club adult leader for many years and was named Runnels County Adult Leader of the Year in 1977. Mildred served on the Runnels County Appraisal Board. She was appointed as an election judge for the election precinct at Norton and worked numerous years at the county elections.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Leon W. Frerich, and son, Douglas Frerich, her parents, Edward G. and Adela Hoelscher, sisters, Gladys Hoelscher, Bernice Kobel, and Dolores Hoelscher, and brothers-in-law, Paul Kobel, Milton Piwonka, Floyd Frerich, Arnold Frerich, and Hubert Frerich, and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Frerich and Pauline Frerich.
Survivors include her son, Howard Frerich and wife, Debbie, of Vernon, two daughters, Linda Binns and husband, Quint, of San Angelo, and Teresa Boatner and husband, Hank, of North Richland Hills, daughter-in-law, Annette Frerich of Houston, grandchildren Brad Frerich and wife, Liz, Christopher Frerich and wife, Stephanie, Justin Frerich and wife, Sarah, Samantha Hornstein and husband, Kyler, Shelley Madden and husband, Dylan, Stacey Wells and husband, Andrew, Elizabeth Pelzel and husband, Logan, Clayton Binns, Payton Fitzgerald and husband, Ryan, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Monroe Frerich, and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Piwonka, Alice Frerich, and Annette Frerich, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 6:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, led by Deacon David Workman. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger with Rev. Tom Barley celebrating.
