Lois West Smith, 88, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Lois was born on Feb. 15, 1937, in Eldorado, Texas, to Rube & Rhody Mae West. Lois was one of 10 children. She married Dean Smith in Ballinger, Texas on December 19, 1954. She and Dean owned several businesses including “Smith Real Estate” from 1964-2021, “KRUN Radio” from 1970-1995, and “Magic Travel” from 1977-2000.
Lois was a wonderful wife and mother, incredible cook, and homemaker. She loved to travel and always felt blessed by that. She was a member of the Ninth St. Church of Christ and First Christian Church.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Gerald West, Wayne West, Delmon West, Herman West, Arlinea Holleman, Wanda Chupe, and her beloved husband, Dean Smith.
She is survived by her children, daughter Dena Smith, son Lynn Smith (Laura), and daughter Dian Lieck (Paul). Lois will be greatly missed by her grandchildren- Jill Smith, Tyler Smith (Brandee), Kyle Smith (Keareah), Chris Champion, Chris Klein, Jenny Ice (Sam), Kaitlin Lieck, Lauran Lieck, and Skylar Sustaita. She will also be tenderly remembered by her great-grandchildren- Jaden Smith, Aaliyah Smith, Jade Bennett, Bryce Bennett, Bryson Klein, Judy Richards, Carter Klein, Ben Klein, Addy Klein, Anna Klein, and Max Rogers, as well as great-great-grandchildren Gus & Simon and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois is also survived by her siblings LaVerne Baker (Mack), Virginia Hill, and Bobbie Love and sister-in-law, Carletta West.
A celebration of Lois’ life will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church of Ballinger, Texas, with her son, Lynn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels or Hospice of Ballinger in Lois’ name.
