Leigh Gayle Nadine Vancil passed away peacefully at her home in Abilene, Texas, on May 11, 2025. She was born November 12, 1979. For the past 26 years, she has resided in a special needs home, cared for by the loving staff of SOMA Resources in Abilene.
Leigh enjoyed a special spot in her family as the oldest grandchild in both her father’s and mother’s families. She touched the lives of everyone she ever met. She had a joyful spirit and especially loved cats. For years, one of the highlights of her life was her annual trips to summer camp at Camp C.A.M.P. in Kerrville and later Camp Summit near Denton. There she enjoyed swimming, horseback riding, canoeing, and other camping activities designed for individuals with special needs who really couldn’t safely go to other summer camps.
She is survived by her father, Karl Vancil and his wife Laura, her mother, Linda Ponder and her husband Len, her grandmother Gayle Vancil, her sister Ashley Landers and her husband Chad, her special cousins Rebecca Hillburn and Elaine Hanes Little, along with a myriad of aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews and nieces.
There will be a memorial service for Leigh on May 23, 2025, at 10:30am at Lange Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial at Evergreen Cemetery later that day.
Leigh’s Mother and Daddy request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp C.A.M.P. in Kerrville or Camp Summit in Denton.
