June Hartgrove Dankworth, 87, of Paint Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
She was born on March 30, 1934, in San Angelo, Texas, to Concho County ranchers Wilson Connell and Dixie (Smith) Hartgrove. Her roots in Texas go back eight generations. After graduating from Paint Rock High School, June attended Texas Christian University. On January 2, 1953, she married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart Charles Joseph Dankworth at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas. They shared almost 43 years together before his passing in 1996. June was an incredibly devoted wife, mother, grandma, and sister. She dedicated countless hours to the Paint Rock community which she loved so much. June served in many roles at the Paint Rock School district for over 27 years. She was an active member and leader on many boards and committees including the Paint Rock Study Club, the Paint Rock Cemetery Association, St. Boniface Altar Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Henry B. Crozier Library. If you were lucky, you could also catch her riding her lawnmower around Paint Rock to make sure that the grass was kept neat at the park, city hall, or anywhere that needed it. June was a large part of the culture that drew people to Paint Rock and she will be greatly missed.
June is preceded in death by her husband Charles Joseph Dankworth, her parents Wilson and Dixie Hartgrove, and her brother Dixon A. Hartgrove.
She is survived by her children David Dankworth and wife Pamela of New Jersey, daughter Dixie Dankworth Cope of Fredricksburg, Texas, and sister Deborah Lake Hofmann. She is also survived by her grandchildren Owen, Trevor, Connor, Anabelle, and Audrey, her little dog CoCo, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
