Jo Anne Groat, 67, passed peacefully on August 20, 2023. She was born October 16, 1955, in Hobbes, New Mexico, to James and Betty Godfrey. She was the youngest of six children.
She is survived by her loving family: four siblings Toddle Godfrey, Linda Roberts, Janice Challenger, and Kathy Godfrey; her husband of 44 years, Carl Groat (married July 21, 1979); their three sons Shawn Groat, Ty Groat, and Matthew Groat; two step-children Jason Groat and Jena Qualls; three grandchildren Kye Groat, Kavyn Groat and Casyn Groat; four step-grandchildren Dryden Groat, Syndel Groat, Randy Qualls and Lindsey Qualls.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Betty Godfrey, her brother, Jerry Godfrey, and her very good friend, Judy Goodgion.
In her youth, she was a gifted athlete who enjoyed playing sports, especially softball. The only thing she enjoyed more than playing sports, was watching her kids and grandkids play sports.
Jo Anne earned her LVN at Howard College in May 1997. Nursing allowed her to continue following her true passion, which was caring for others. She cared for her family, she cared for her friends, she cared for her patients and she cared for her animals, especially her dogs.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and nurses in Shannon Hospital’s ICU and palliative care units. We are especially thankful for Hospice of San Angelo. Each has provided great care, guidance, and compassion as they accompanied us on this difficult journey.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Miles, Texas - Brother Charles Williams officiating.
