Jerry "Skipper" Wheeless

December 2, 1943 — August 2, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Skipper Wheeless, who left us peacefully at his home in Ballinger, Texas, on August 2, 2024, at the age of 80.

Skipper was born on December 2, 1943, and lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and generosity.

Skipper is survived by his son, Jerry Wheeless, and his wife, Denise; his “Sweet-pea” Sondra Tha Diz; his stepdaughters, Sharon Cagle, and Gina Wells, one brother Bubba Wheeless, nephews Jason Wheeless and Jared Wheeless, and extended family Warren Stoker. He was also a proud grandfather to Casey Cagle,Jaylee Wells, Heidi-Lee Wheeless, Hannah Stoker, and a great-grandson Elijah Wells.

Renowned for his many talents and accomplishments, Skipper was a highly skilled woodworker, welder and served with distinction as a county commissioner for 17 years. He was appointed to leadership roles in numerous County Judge and County Commissioner state-level associations within Texas for many years during his career. His love for billiards and his remarkable talent for cooking brisket were just a few of the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him. Skipper had a remarkable ability to solve problems and figure things out, earning the admiration and respect of all who knew him.

In honoring Skipper’s wishes, his remains have been donated to science, and no services will be held.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Ballinger Cares Hugh Wade Center.
