Jane Frances Schwertner Holtman was born on April 29, 1940, on her parents’ farm in Rowena, Texas. She was called to be with the Lord on June 20, 2026.
She married Ray Holtman on August 21, 1962, and they spent most of their life on their farm south of Ballinger. Jane was a talented artist and worked for Barney’s Studio in San Angelo. She also worked at City Savings, the ASCS office, and Hallmark Cards in Ballinger Walmart.
Jane had a deep love for art and enjoyed creating pottery. She loved gardening and farming especially growing hollyhocks, raising chickens, and caring for the cats and dog.
She enjoyed collecting art and books and had a passion for reading. Jane appreciated nature and found joy in birdwatching, trees, yuccas, and the beauty of the outdoors. She especially enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets over the family farm.
Jane and Ray shared a love of dancing with their long-time friends Carl and Janette Wilde and Arnold and Charlene Matthiesen.
Jane was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen. She was actively involved in her church and especially enjoyed working at the annual Fall Festival.
Jane loved Charlie Brown, working on puzzles, windmills, and antiques. Her creativity, appreciation for nature, and love for her family and home will be remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Holtman; her parents, Ludwig and Olivia Schwertner; her brother, Lloyd Schwertner; her sister-in-law, Paquita Schwertner; her in-laws Ben and Annie Holtman; her brother and sister-in-law Wilfred and MaryAnn Holtman and son-in-law, Lamar Evans.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Karen Evans of Sonora, Texas; her daughter Bonnie Hastings and husband John of Lolo, Montana; and her son Derek Holtman and wife Becky of Lago Vista, Texas.
She had five grandchildren: Madison Evans Woehl, Damon Evans and wife Debra; Serena Garland and husband Jon; Kara Holtman; and Nathan Holtman and wife Shannon. Jane also had seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Jane will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 6:00 pm at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen, Texas, with Father Ariel Lagunilla celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Visiting Angels, Meals on Wheels, Ballinger Home Health and Concho Health and Rehabilitation for their care throughout Jane’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels in Jane’s honor.
