Jack Glen Gleghorn, 87, of Bronte, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at the Robert Lee Care Center.
Jack was born on June 30, 1937, in O'Donnell, Texas, to Finis Elbert and Anna Pearl (Hunter) Gleghorn. A proud Texan and a devoted public servant, Jack lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to fairness. He believed in giving everyone a chance and treated people with the respect and dignity they deserved.
He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps before returning home to begin a long and respected career in law enforcement. Jack worked with the Lamesa Police Department from 1967 to 1974, then continued his service with the Sheriff's Office from 1974 until his retirement in 1999.
Beyond his dedication to his community, Jack found great joy in the simple things—especially his cows. He had a special love for the land and the animals he cared for, finding peace and purpose in that part of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents Finis Elbert and Anna Pearl Gleghorn, wife Sherry Gayle Gleghorn, brothers Wayne Gleghorn, Dwight Gleghorn, sister Shirley Dorman, grandson Christopher Gleghorn, and great grandson Jaxon Boone.
Jack is survived by his sons, Shane Gleghorn (Debbie) of Ballinger and Fritz Gleghorn (Lisa) of San Diego California. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
There will be a time of visitation on May 15, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Beefmaster Steakhouse located in Ballinger Tx. The family would love everyone to come out and enjoy a cup of coffee with Jack. Interment will follow on May 16, 2025, at 2:00pm at Dawson County Cemetery with Dennis Adams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Robert Lee Care Center, Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of your choice in Jack’s honor.
His life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and love for family and community.
