Fernando Pena Martinez, Jr.

April 9, 1953 — March 8, 2026

Ballinger, Texas

Fernando Pena Martinez, Jr. “Junior”, 72, of Ballinger, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 9, 1953, in Hondo, Texas to Fernando Pena Sr. and Anita (Lopez) Martinez.

Junior was known for his sense of humor, and love for bringing people together. He especially enjoyed cooking and barbequing for his family and friends. It was not uncommon for the smell of BBQ to fill the neighborhood while Junior shared food, laughter, and good company with those around him. He was a natural jokester who loved to make people laugh and brighten their day.

Family meant everything to Junior. He was always there to lend a helping hand to all his nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends. He cherished every moment he could spend with his loved ones, whether it was sharing a meal, telling stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company. If you spent enough time around him, you were sure to hear one of his many stories, each told with his humor and personality you would have to know Junior to truly understand.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Anita Martinez, and his sister, Gloria Jaso.

He is survived by his brothers, Ray Martinez (Janie), Oscar Martinez (Maggie), Jesse Martinez (Vickie), Roger Martinez (Cynthia), Joe Martinez (Jovita), Johnny Martinez (Juana), Michael Martinez, and Martin Martinez; and his sisters, Frances Quirino (Junior), Mary Lou Gauna (Erasmo), and Dora Villarreal (Juan). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will miss him dearly.

A rosary will be held for Junior on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas.

The family asks that everyone continue to love one another and keep telling Junior’s stories—whether they were all true or not, we may never know, but that was part of what made him so special. They would also like to thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.

The next time you are sitting outside or bbqing with family and friends, think of Junior, smile, and remember the joy and laughter he brought to so many.
