“Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.” Psalms 116:15
Janet was the oldest daughter of Duette H. and Evelyn Doyle Caldwell. She was born October 21st, 1935, in Wolf City, Texas, and entered her eternal rest on March 9, 2023, in Ballinger, TX.
Janet moved to Silver, Texas, as a young girl, and was raised in the Sun Oil camp. She graduated from Colorado City High School in 1953 and married David B. McKinnon in 1954 at the Baptist Church in Silver, TX.
Janet and David lived most of their married life in Dallas, Texas, where David was a CPA and Janet was a homemaker. They raised three children there and were active in the First Baptist Church of Dallas, and the Elks Lodge. Janet was a charter member of the Nimble Thimbles and was a talented quilter. She was also a member of the CPA Wives Club. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was kind-hearted and reserved. She made the best chocolate sheet cake and was also known for her homemade steak-fingers.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, her husband David B. McKinnon, brother-in-law Robert “Bub” McKinnon, and grandnephew Chance McKinnon.
She is survived by sister Mary Ann Teague of Garland, TX; daughter Sharon Lynn Tidwell and husband Andy of San Antonio, Tx; son Dr. Mark McKinnon and wife Ellen of Ballinger, TX; and son Scott McKinnon and wife Laura of Midlothian, TX. Grandchildren Andrea Bowen (Kris), Todd Tidwell (Laurie), Scott Tidwell, Krysta McKinnon (Elliott Marshall), David A. McKinnon (Emily), Clarice McKinnon, and Monte McKinnon. She is also survived by 4 great-grandsons, Tagg, Beau, Wells, and Eli; two nieces, Alicia Arnold and Beverly Teague; and one nephew, Patrick McKinnon.
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” I John 5:11-13 NKJV
Janet gave her life to Christ Jesus as a teenager and is with her husband and parents in eternal rest and joy now that God has called her home. The family would like to thank the many people who helped us care for her, especially at the Ballinger Healthcare and Rehab Center, and Teri, Cindy, Cynthia, and Melissa, who helped care for her at home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trent's retreat or Ballinger Cares, in Janet's honor.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
