Elton Jerry Holden

Jul 23, 1937 — Jun 27, 2026

Ballinger, Texas

Elton Jerry Holden, 88, was called home on Saturday, June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born on July 23, 1937, in San Antonio, TX to Charlie Holden and Mary Laverne (Owen) Holden. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for faith, family, and the great outdoors.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army after enlisting on December 7, 1960. He served honorably until December 6, 1966, earning the Expert Rifle Badge and the Good Conduct Medal for his dedication and service.

On December 26, 1959, Jerry married the love of his life, Ruby Darnell Eubanks, in McCamey, TX. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family - sharing 66 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and cherished memories.

Jerry was a man of simple, but profound joys. He loved the Lord with all his heart, found peace in the outdoors, and treasured every moment spent with his family. Whether hunting, fishing, working outside, cooking, building, creating, or gathered around the table with those he loved, Jerry found his greatest happiness in the people around him. His family was his pride and joy. Jerry was an incredibly devoted grandfather (Pa) to his 3 grandkids. He always went above and beyond the role of a grandfather. His grandkids knew that no matter where life took them, their Pa was right there with them to love, support, and guide them. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren watching the Cowboys play ball. In his later years, Jerry loved to sit on the porch of the cabin in his rocking chair, spending time with his son, Stuart, and his faithful dog, Baxter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie Holden and Mary Laverne (Owen) Holden; brother, Donald Owen Holden (Geneva); nephew, Charlie Owen Holden.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Darnell Holden; sister, Charlene Holden Crump; son, Stuart Holden and wife Shelly; grandson, Michael Holden (Cathy); grandson, Benjamin Holden (Emily); granddaughter, Rebecca Myers (Jake); great grandchildren Christian Holden and Abigail Holden (Mike); nephew, Jerry Scott Holden (Tiffany); nephew, Roby Crump; niece, Elaine Bishop (Dan) and their children; along with countless other friends, family, and community he cherished so deeply.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the nurses of Ballinger Home Health and Hospice that Jerry was so fond of, Dr. Karen Rightmire, Jose and Marina Diaz, and all others who helped care for and love on Jerry in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you thank a United States servicemember for the sacrifices they made and still make for our country.

Jerry’s life was a testament to faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
