With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elroy Moore, aged 82, who departed this world peacefully on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the comforting presence of his loved ones, at his home. Born on May 4, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, to James and Lucille (Williams) Moore, Elroy was a beacon of love, strength, and service. 

Elroy chose to serve his nation by enlisting in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. His distinguished 20-year military career included honorable tours in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. For his unwavering bravery and dedication, he was awarded the Purple Heart, a testament to his courageous spirit and sacrifice. After retiring from the Army, Elroy returned to his roots in Ballinger, Texas, where he and his beloved wife, Bettie Jene Jackson, built their family their forever home. 

On a sunny day in 1968, Elroy married Bettie, the love of his life, in a beautiful ceremony in Ballinger, Texas. Their partnership was a true friendship was a true testament to love and devotion, spanning over 56 wonderful years. Together, they ran the Moore's BBQ shop, a place filled with laughter, community, and tantalizing aromas from sunup to sundown. Elroy took great pride in maintaining the family's rental properties, thus contributing significantly and earning the respect and admiration of many. 

A man of deep faith, Elroy served diligently as a Sunday school teacher and deacon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He was passionate about guiding others on their spiritual journey and was a cornerstone of the church community. 

Elroy's pride and joy were his family. Any conversation with him inevitably led to tales of his son, Todd Moore, whose achievements filled him with immense pride, and cherished stories of shared moments with his adored granddaughters, Brittany Garza, Taylor Moore, and Faith Moore. 

Elroy's legacy continues with his wife, Bettie, his son and daugther-in-law, Todd and Jenifer Moore of San Angelo, Texas, and his granddaughters. He also leaves behind a loving extended family: Gerome Williams, Roberta Sue Williams, Carmailita Moore, Andre Moore, Orlando Moore, Lena Moore, and Juanita Moore. 

Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James Edward Moore, Frankie Moore, Lawrence Moore, and Leroy Moore, Elroy is now reunited with his beloved family members in eternal peace. 

A graveside service to honor Elroy Moore's life will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Texas. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, reflecting Elroy's generous heart and commitment to helping others. 

Elroy Moore's life was a testament to service, love, and community. His legacy of kindness and courage will forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
