Elgin Calvin Glass

September 16, 1930 — November 15, 2025

Millersview, Texas

Elgin Calvin Glass, 95, of Millersview, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. He was born September 16, 1930, in Ballinger, Texas, to Edwin Joe and Hildagard Emma (Lindemann) Glass.

Elgin was a lifelong farmer and rancher, dedicated to the land and way of life he cherished. In his younger years, he served honorably in the United States Army before receiving a medical discharge. He also enjoyed woodworking, crafting small knickknacks like towel racks with patience and pride.

Elgin was known for his kindness, generosity, intelligence, and quiet, peaceful spirit. A private man by nature, he was always deeply grateful for every visitor, greeting them with the warmth and fussing care of a loving grandparent—always making sure they were fed and tended to. He took excellent care of his parents, often tidying up the kitchen after his mother, and continued to honor their memory throughout his life.

He had a remarkable memory even in his later years, recalling the beauty of the cherry blossom trees he saw on a 1973 trip to Washington, D.C. He also had a natural intuition—about business, about people, and about life—much like his father. Elgin was devoted to his brothers and never hesitated to help them when needed.

He truly loved his Moline UTU tractor, proudly driving it from Ballinger to St. Lawrence on a regular basis. In his 50s and 60s, he especially enjoyed trips to Brady for coffee with his buddies, where he shared stories, laughter, and good company. His laugh—especially when he was truly tickled—was one of his most memorable qualities.

Elgin is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brothers, Charles Glass and Harm Ray Glass; by his cousins Eddie Marie Gottschalk Dunn and Dorothy Gottschalk, and nephew John Edwin Bennett Glass. He is also survived by Justin Busenlehner and Jodi Busenlehner. Elgin will also be deeply missed by his long time friend Annie Pruitt.

A visitation will be held Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas. Graveside services will follow on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, with Alan Pelzel officiating.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mitra Meenavalli, Dr. Karen Rightmire, and the dedicated staff of Home Health of Ballinger and Ballinger Healthcare & Rehab for the compassionate care shown to Elgin.
