Dorothy Dahmann, 86, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Ballinger, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born on December 12, 1939, in Muleshoe, Texas, to Joseph and Ida Belle Barbera. In May of 1959, she met the love of her life, Fred William Dahmann, at Lofton’s following his discharge from the United States Army. Their love story quickly blossomed, and the two were married on November 29, 1959.
Dorothy and Fred made their home on 8th Street in Ballinger during the early years of their marriage while Fred worked in the oilfield. In 1965, Fred began his career with the United States Postal Service, and the couple later settled on Largent Avenue, where together they raised their three children.
Dorothy had a love for quilting and enjoyed the time, patience, and creativity that went into each piece she made. She was also an avid collector of buttons and was a member of the button club. Dorothy also loved to travel. Above all, Dorothy cherished her family. The life she and Fred built together, and the generations that followed, remained among her greatest joy in life.
After moving to Clifton, Texas, Dorothy continued to stay active and involved in her community. She generously volunteered her time at the Pot of Gold, where she helped sort through donated items that were sold to raise money in support of the retirement community she called home.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred William Dahmann, who passed away on August 20, 2021; her parents, Joseph and Ida Belle Barbera; her daughter, Marion Alice Dahmann; her granddaughter, Rene Rodriguez; and her great-granddaughter, Kaylee Aguirre.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Belle Aguirre and husband Reynaldo; her son, David William Allan Dahmann; her sisters, Susan Hennings and June Gerber and husband Walter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Lange Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Old Runnels Cemetery.
