Dorine Frances Binder

Dorine Frances Binder of Ballinger, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.  She lived 94 years full of family, farming, music, steaks, and love.

Dorine was born November 27, 1926, in Runnels County, Texas to Ludy A. and Willa Mae (Fisher) Strakos. She married Edmund Jacob Binder on June 20, 1950, in Rowena, Texas, and began her role as wife, mother of six, homemaker, and farm helper.  Her husband preceded her in death on April 10, 2009.

During her school days at Sweet Home School, Dorine played baseball for the Lowake Red Caps.  She also played violin in a band that she and her two sisters joined, known as the Concho Drifters.  For many years she was a waitress at Lowake Steak House.  Dorine and her son, Joe, operated the Rowena Steak House in the early 1980s. She was always busy serving others throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; sons, Joe Binder and George Binder; brother, Victor Strakos; and a sister, Pauline Mazur.

Dorine is survived by her large and loving family:  her children, Edmund Binder, Jr. and wife, Karen; Frances Werner and husband, Ricky; Charles Binder and wife, Lisa; Allan Binder and wife, Lorry; and daughters-in-law, Yvonne Binder and Wanda Binder.  She is fondly remembered by her 14 grandchildren, Tracye Lassus, Lacy Thomas, John Binder, Brad Binder, Dale Binder, Clayton Binder, Neil Werner, Bobby Werner, Nicholas Binder, Chelsea Johansen, Ashley Binder, Joshua Binder, Whitney Wells, and Chris Wells.  Also surviving are 26 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Luke Lassus, Greyson Thomas, Jon. Cooper, Riley and Jaxson Binder, Kyrstin, Keeley, and Kynna Binder, Brooklyn Binder, Kylie, Cutter, Cassidy, Clete, and Kale Binder, Wyatt Werner, Abby, Kadie and Lily Werner, Jaxon and Kaylyn Binder, Sariah Binder, Declan, Cian, and Ainslee Wells. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosie Motl and Josie Egan, and her brothers, Joe Strakos and James Strakos.

Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 6, at Lange Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

The family extends deep gratitude to the staff of Central Texas Nursing and Rehabilitation, Dorine’s residence since 2015, and to her many friends there for their love and care.  Donations in Dorine’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
