Charles Dexter Mapes, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2023, at Central Texas Nursing and Rehab in Ballinger, Texas.
Charles was born on Sunday, January 12, 1930, to Samuel and Ollie (Smith) Mapes in Ballinger, Texas. He was a graduate of Ballinger High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Patsy Ruth Crawford, on April 5, 1952, at the First Christian Church of Ballinger. During their many years together in Crane, they were members of the First Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; parents, Samuel and Ollie; his daughter, Leigh Estoll; his son, Mark Mapes; his grandson, Casey Boothe; his sister, Marjorie (Jean) Simpson; and his brother, Doug Mapes.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Lynn Bartlett and husband Bart of Ballinger, Laurie Stark and husband Wayne of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Jason Stark of Snyder, Terilyn Bowman and husband Cord of Ballinger, Jeremy Stark and wife Patty of Plano, Christan Pugh of Odessa, and Korri Lange and husband Ty of Ballinger; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Beth Harral; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Charles will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at Lange Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, with Jim Crawford officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Charles’ honor. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the staff at Central Texas Nursing and Rehab and Ballinger Hospice for the loving care they gave our father.
