Berna Loy Schooler, 85, of Paint Rock, died surrounded by loved ones on Aug. 29, 2025.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1940, to Jack C. and Bernice (Hudman) Cockrum in Post, Texas. After graduating from Seminole High School, she met Bobby “Fuzzy” Schooler. They were wed in July of 1960 in Seminole.
Berna's greatest joy was traveling with her husband and family, particularly to Colorado. A true conversationalist, she spent countless hours on the phone, cultivating deep relationships with her closest friends and relatives. While she was mostly a homebody, Berna's ability to befriend anyone was well known.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Berna is survived by her brother, Robert Cockrum (wife, Sue); sons Steven Schooler (Holly), Michael Schooler (Patti) and Kenneth Schooler; grandchildren Rashae Martinez, James Scott Schooler (Faith), Kenneth Schooler Jr., Mary Elizabeth Schooler (Andrew) and Derek Matthew Schooler; great-grandchildren Jarred Culwell, Kymari Culwell, Ryliegh Jo Plummer and Kason Plummer.
She is also missed by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends Don and Margaret McCulloch, Joyce Stevenson, Cindy Warner and Connie Rosenberg.
A private memorial service to celebrate Berna’s life will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association in Berna’s honor, or a charity of choice.
The family thanks the nursing staff at Shannon Hospital for their loving care.
