Barbara Sue Adams

July 30, 1940 — May 19, 2025

Paint Rock

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Sue Adams, of Paint Rock, Texas, who passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born on July 30, 1940, in Galveston, Texas, to Mancil "Buck" and Mary (Kennedy) Weathers. A devoted and determined woman, she attended Lamar, and later, with grace and perseverance, graduated after raising three children—an achievement that reflected her incredible dedication to both family and personal growth.

On January 9, 1959, Barbara married the love of her life, Nolan Adams. Their marriage of 63 years was filled with love, loyalty, and laughter. Together, they built a life centered on family, and mutual support, remaining devoted to one another until Nolan’s passing in 2021.

With Nolan’s encouragement, Barbara pursued a lifelong dream and became an attorney later in life. She attended Texas Tech Law School and proudly earned her license on May 3, 1999. This accomplishment was one of her proudest moments. Barbara wasn’t your typical attorney—she believed legal help should be accessible and made her services affordable to those in need. She was especially passionate about her court-appointed work representing children in CPS cases, and she found pure joy in assisting with adoptions, giving children a loving new beginning.

Barbara was a wonderful wife, a devoted mother, and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Her care and kindness were felt by all who knew her—from her family to her many grateful clients. She loved to travel, especially road-tripping through Texas with Nolan, searching for blooming bluebonnets and creating cherished memories along the way.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Mancil and Mary Weathers; her beloved husband, Nolan Adams; and their infant son, Stephen Adams.

She is survived by her brother, Guerry Weathers, and his wife Sandi; Her daughter, Tracey Cantrell, and husband Steve; granddaughter Kassie Spencer and husband Jimmy, with great-grandchildren Evan, James, and Kason of Belton, Texas; Her son, Todd Adams, and wife Carolyn of Bloomfield, New Mexico; grandson Stephen and granddaughter Sarah; Her daughter, Kelley Berry, and husband Glen of Paint Rock, Texas; granddaughter Jessica Thomas and husband JT, with great-grandchildren Jayden and Nevaeh of Whitney, Texas; granddaughter Lyndsey Johnson and husband Justin of Poulsbo, Washington; And her niece, Sherri Shoestal, husband Stewart, and their family of Nederland, Texas.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to St. Gabriel’s Hospice and to the dear friends who took time to visit Barbara in her final days—your love and support brought her great comfort.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Barbara’s honor to the Lubbock County Texas Girls and Boys Ranch or Meals on Wheels of Lubbock, Texas, two causes that reflect her generous and caring heart.
